At VoiceCon, Polycom announced that it now has a full portfolio of HD voice phones, adding on two under $200 phones, one specifically optimized for Microsoft Office Communicator. The announcement fulfills the company’s pronouncement in the spring that all of Polycom’s products would support HD Voice by the end of the year.
The Polycom SoundPoint IP 335 will be available this month at a suggested retail price of $199. The phone supports SIP and includes Polycom’s HD Voice(TM) technology with the G.722 wideband codec and other optimizations for the clearest audio. It is also hardened against cell phone interference and has integrated PoE (Power over Ethernet) support.
For Microsoft Office Communicator junkies, the Polycom CX300 includes integration with Windows XP and Vista, wideband voice support, plug-and-play operation through a USB port, and an enhanced presence indicator.
As noted in a previous article, it’s very hard to find an enterprise or SMB handset that doesn’t have G.722.
