Acme Packet gives lip-service to HD voice in the LTE world

In a column at RCR Wireless News, an Acme Packet (www.acmepacket.com) employee drops one of our most favorite phrases – ironic, given the major role Acme Packet’s SBC hardware is supposedly playing in SIP/HD voice peering.

Looking at “Voice over LTE: How soon is now?,” Solutions Marketing Director Kevin Mitchell notes that the LTE camp has finally figured out that SIP is the only solution that make sense to deliver voice over a data network – with a good helping of IMS on top, of course.

Towards the end of the column, Mitchell says the magic words: “Through owning the access infrastructure and EPC along with IMS/SIP-based services core, mobile service providers can differentiate themselves from OTP ASPs with the likes of wideband voice codecs for HD voice, interactive video with QoS and Rich Communication Suite services such as integrated presence and diverse messaging.”
