Whaleback Systems (http://www.whalebacksystems.com) has announced a managed business service optimized for SIP trunks plus a new carrier partner program for selling the service to the SMB market.
CrystalBlue Lite is a managed VoIP offering specifically designed for carriers deploying SIP trunks and includes a “carrier-class” fault-tolerant IP PBX appliance at the customer site. The “low-cost” appliance is deployed by Whaleback (i.e. drop-shipped, plug-and-play) and integrated with SIP trunking service and broadband circuits offered by carriers and MSOs.
Enterprise VoIP Planet reports that CrustalBlue Lite includes a SIP trunk and up to 20 Polycom HD phones; it isn’t clear from reports how/if HD voice will “travel” beyond the IP PBX beyond the carrier level. Whaleback told EVP that it sees big things in managed services in the 5 to 99 person space.
Pricing for the service ranges on $40 to $60 per station per month and requires anywhere from a 24 to 48 month contract.
Whaleback’s new carrier-focused channel partner program is designed to provide carriers the technology, network operations, customer support, billing and overall product management for hosted SMB VoIP. The company will train new carrier partners’ direct and indirect sales channels and support efforts with co-branded materials and marketing efforts; the carrier supplies access network (i.e. pipe/broadband), SIP trunks and rate plans for phone usage. Whaleback will also provide a “national service partner” for on-site installation and repair services.
