Not a lot of detail on the company’s website, but ooma (www.ooma.com) has quietly launched a variation of its service for only $99.99 down and $9.99 per month.
The offer, viewable at http://www.ooma.com/basicmonthlyplus/ as of June 14 at 11 AM, is a “special offer” to get Ooma for only $99.99 (normally $249.99 for the hardware and unlimited “free” U.S. local and long-distance phone service), plus $9.99 for the company’s Basic Plus month service, including “Unlimited local and long distance calls within all 50 states…Voicemail, Caller-ID, Call-Waiting, 911 Service and more.”
A couple of details on the web page are confusing. 1) The offer says “No computer or headset required, just use your existing phone,” so you’re not going to get a handset thrown in. 2) The device portrayed on the offer page is the first generation (semi-clunky) ooma basestation hardware, not the second-generation (pretty, black), but a diagram below the page says “Telo” so it’s not clear if you’re getting first-generation or second-generation hardware in the offer and 3) No details on how long one might have to commit to $9.99 per month under the Basic Plus service.
