A brief paragraph in Telecom Paper states that Russian mobile operator Megafon has launched HD voice service in Moscow; the report says Megafon is the first operator in Russia to do so.
It sounds like another AMR-WB/Ericsson drop-in to a 3G network – “The operator implements the technology automatically to Moscow areas with 3G coverage and offers the services without any additional fees” – rather than a softphone offering.
Handsets cited as compatible are the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01.
This is the third new territory and second new operator to join the HD voice snowball in about three weeks. France Telecom-Orange announced service in Egypt this week while Tata DOCOMO launched 3G service with HD voice last week.
