Orange subsidiary TP introduces HD voice in Poland–and maybe HD upconverting…

After months of promises and hints throughout 2010, Orange subsidiary Polish Telecom has officially launched broadband HD voice service.  The translated press release can be found here.

Current hardware supported is the Livephone Sagem D67W and can be purchased either in showrooms or on the company’s website.

Interestingly, while the best sound quality is only available for “VoIP2VoIP” calls, other types of connections are made “at a higher sound quality than standard” says the press release.  The implication here is HD upconverting of non-VoIP calls is taking place somewhere in the network, using Ditech’s newly Virtual HD Voice solution or a similar technology.
