Verizon Wireless (www.verizonwireless.com) is demonstrating a broad range of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and HD voice capable gear in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress this week. We have updates from Quentyn Kennemer and Verizon Wireless.
Tweeting as @ogwilson, Kennemer told HD Voice News both the Motorola DROID BIONIC and the HTC Thunderbolt will support HD voice as a part of their feature sets. It’s an interesting turn of events, since Motorola has been quiet about AMR-WB.
In addition, both VoLTE demos include AMR-WB and HD Voice, so Verizon Wireless has one setup using an LG Revolution smart phone and Alcatel-Lucent network gear and another setup using a Samsung smart phone and Ericsson network gear.
HD Voice News has sent a follow up question to Verizon Wireless asking if the company has demonstrated HD voice phone calls between its gear and France Telecom’s service.
Regardless, U.S. customers are going to have to wait until the VoLTE 2012 rollout.
