Mobile HD voice now runs from 2G to 4G

HD Voice News Editor-in-Chief Doug Mohney has published an article at TMC on mobile HD voice’s proliferation from GSM 2G networks through 4G LTE networks.

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has laid claim to being the first to implement HD voice on MegaFon’s 2G network.  There are plenty of 3G/HSPA+ networks around the globe running HD voice these days, with Ericsson leading the pack; NSN has 3 carriers claimed while Huawei has 1 so far.

Implementation of HD voice on 4G LTE networks is tied to Voice over LTE (VoLTE).  Verizon Wireless will deploy VoLTE in 2012 on Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson network gear.  A successful demonstration of the technology took place at Mobile World Congress 2011 in February.
