Metaswitch Networks (www.metaswitch.com) has added CommPortal Communicator to its growing portfolio of “We’re here to help the service provider” software applications. The customizable UC client includes support for G.722.
CommPortal Communicator is available on Windows PCs, Apple i-devices and Android platforms. The software is designed to be a managed UC client for use by service providers and enterprise/business customers to provide a managed alternative to random over-the-top clients that appear without the approval of IT and to recapture some of the revenue that flows out through OTT clients.
Needless to say, the software does pretty much what other managed UC clients have been doing for a while; providing a hosted PBX and UC experience on a mobile handset, PC or enterprise desktop phone, including providing HD video calling, standards-based IM and presence, integration with Facebook and Outlook, presenting caller ID from work via the soft client, routing calls from the office to the soft client, and so forth.
The bigger message Metaswitch is pushing to service providers is providing software to combat OTT revenue erosion, and another software solution/option to add to CommPortal and the Metaswitch family of products.
