HD voice takes to the skies with TrueNorth Avionics

Thanks to Dave Rodrigues at TMC for the tip.

TrueNorth Avionics has added HD voice support to its Simphone OpenCabin system for aircraft, reports Aero-News.net.   No details in the press release on what the definition of HD voice is, however.

The company provides a range of communications solutions to aircraft.  Launch customer for the new application is Airbus Corporate Jet Center supporting the A319CJ aircraft, followed by a Boeing 777 installation performed by AMAC.  Existing Simphone OpenCabin customers can upgrade software to get the functionality.

Service is delivered over Inmarsat Swift Broadband and Swift6 satellite links; the software upgrade also delivers better faxing capability as well.

No specifics on the codec or codes being supported to deliver HD voice were includes in the announcement.  HD Voice News is awaiting a response to its email asking for clarification.
