Verizon: No VoLTE roaming to 3G, VoLTE coming 1st half 2012

In an interview with Wireless Week, a Verizon Wireless said voice calls on its LTE network aren’t going to roam to CDMA with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) smart phones coming out next year.

Verizon Wireless product development executive Marjorie Hsu told the publication, “VoLTE will not hand down to 1X [CDMA].”

The company expects to roll out VoLTE in the first half of 2012 and expects to match its 3G footprint with LTE service in 2013.

Wireless Week stated that it is technically feasible to transfer VoLTE calls to an operator’s legacy network, but there’s additional complexity to support Dual Radio or Single Radio Voice Call Continuity service.
