When The Cable Show (2011.thecableshow.com) arrives the week of June 13, will cable companies open up about HD voice? Representatives from Comcast, Cox, Cablevision, and the FCC will “Talk About a Dream: New Directions in Cable Voice” on Tuesday. A session description is below–
Cable’s emergence as a mainstay provider of residential and business voice services is just the start. Leveraging new technologies and capabilities, cable providers are devising fresh combinations of voice, video and messaging services that dovetail with changing customer expectations of telephone service. Leaders in cable voice services talk about what’s new and what’s next in a changing category. Discovery points:
- The rise of video calling and cable’s role in it
- What’s new in products, features and capability
- Marketing voice: What works?
The session description doesn’t use this the publications favorite phrase, but Cablevision is already providing hosted HD voice to its business customers and Comcast has done almost everything short of set a date for a consumer HD voice trial. It also makes reference to “leveraging new technologies and capabilities” which might indicate a discussion about CAT-iq.
Needless to say, the reference to video calling, is, well, disappointing…
