Lantiq (www.lantiq.com) has announced its XWAY and COSMIC chipsets have been incorporated into the first home gateway certified as CAT-iq 2.0 compliant by the DECT Forum. Deutsche Telekom will upgrade its Speedport W 504V home gateway to be CAT-iq compliant in its service area – Germany – beginning this summer.
The Lantiq COSIC Modem is an integrated CAT-iq solution featuring a baseband controller, RF transceiver and a power amplifier on a single chip. It is combine withany of the Lantiq XWAY xRX family of CPE products for xDSL gateways. In addition, Lantiq’s embedded VoIP engine is the DECT software stack which is at the heart of the CAT-iq implementation.
CAT-iq 2.0 supports a list of features, including cordless HD voice over DECT 6.0 using the G.722 codec, plus multi-line support, easy pairing and phonebook synchronization.
Before today’s announcement, Deutsche Telekom has not been cited as a big broadband HD voice player. The adoption of CAT-iq 2.0 appears to be gaining speed in Europe and more CAT-iq 2.0 announcements are expected in a couple of weeks at The Cable Show.
