HD voice moves northward in Europe, as TDC announces HD voice on its 3G network in Denmark.
One oddity in the announcement is that "TDC’s business customers” will first experience HD voice; regardless, TDC is following the usual pattern of HD voice deployment. It will be included in the subscription, you need two phones supporting HD (presumably AMR) to support it, and there’s a laundry list of phones.
The list of phones supporting HD voice is rather extensive, and includes a range of Nokia and Sony Ericsson models, including:
“** Nokia: All Symbian phones ^ 3: N8, C6-01, C7, E6, E7, 500, 600, 700, seven hundred and first S40 phones: C3-01, X3-02.
Sony Ericsson: Xperia phones 2011: Arc / Arc S, Neo / Neo V, Play Ray, Active, Mini, Mini Pro, Pro. Live with the Walkman.”
TDC is the largest mobile carrier in Denmark, according to Wikipedia’s listing, with nearly 4.5 million subscribers in 2007. In 2010, the company had a 38 percent of the mobile voice market in Denmark.
The company also has subsidiaries in Norway, Sweden, and Finland, so it will be interesting to see if the Nordic region surges with HD voice deployments over the next 12 months.
