Broadvox interconnects HD voice through Inteliquent

Inteliquent (www.inteliquent.com), the company formerly known as Neutral Tandem, announced Broadvox (www.broadvox.com) as an HD voice interconnection customer.   Broadvox joins 8×8 and at least 8 other service providers exchanging HD voice traffic through Inteliquent.

Seamless interconnection is the final hurdle for ubiquity in making HD voice calls.  Existing Inteliquent customers exchanging traffic through the company’s VoIP platform via SIP can simply sign up to exchange HD voice calls without any additional charges; no special number provisioning or additional routing setup is necessary.  HD voice calls are connected on a best effort basis; if a matching codec isn’t available, calls fall back to PSTN/narrowband.

As Neutral Tandem, Inteliquent launched its HD voice service in August 2011 and announced 8×8 – the largest documented single independent HD voice carrier with over 100,000 G.722 capable end-points as its first customer.  At IT Expo East 2012, an Inteliquent executive said the company had at least 10 carriers exchanging HD voice traffic with “millions” of minutes per month taking place.
