Netherlands-based KPN has declared its pilot of mobile HD voice over, and the service permanently available on its entire UMTS / 3G network.
A blog posting on KPN’s website says network quality and the new technology were both closely monitored. With a noticeable improvement in sound quality, KPN decided to make the technology permanently available.
KPN started its HD voice trial at the end of January, with an extensive FAQ and support for running HD voice on the Nokia 800 Lumina Windows Phone.
On Twitter, analysts and Netherlands users seem to be enthusiastic on the announcement, but one person pointed out there’s no AMR-WB support on Blackberry or the Apple iPhone.
