LG Uplus to launch VoLTE service for South Korea in October

LG Uplus (U+) will be delivering Voice over LTE (VoLTE) in October 2012, making South Korea the first country to get national VoLTE coverage.

First reported in The Korea Herald, LG Uplus has completed its nationwide LTE network and “is considering” providing VoLTE on all LTE-based devices starting in 2013.

LG Uplus is South Korea’s smallest mobile provider.  It launched LTE service in July 2011 and claimed over 1 million LTE subscribers as of February 2012; it wants to have 4 million subs by the end of 2012.

SK Telecom and KT Corp are also planning to provide VoLTE service in 2012.
