MobileVantage (@MobileVantage on Twitter) says much maligned Research In Motion (RIM) will support HD Voice on new BlackBerry devices; the person did not, however, provide a source for the statement.
Given RIM’s downward spiral, it may be a race to see if RIM can get HD voice out the door before it is sold or flames out.
It’s not just a rumor. RIM staff were on the May 25th Voip Users Conference call (http://www.voipusersconference.org/2012/guests-from-rim-and-truphone/)along with staff from Truphone. They were promoting their efforts to deliver superior audio, including full bandwidth and stereo capability in the BB10 platform. Truphone was leveraging this new capability to deliver a BB specific version of their over-the-top voip application.
