MetroPCS has apparently snubbed supporting AMR-WB and HD voice on its VoLTE rollout. A piece on PCMag.com says the company is using a 7 kHz codec at this time.
Various company statements from MetroPCS allude to HD voice, but the company appears to be betting on RCS – Rich Communications Services – to attract customers through a better user experience. However, RCS faces the same problems as HD voice – you need to have SIP interoperability through IPX exchange services before you can enable apps.
