LG U+ uses Ericsson for VoLTE service deployment in South Korea

Ericsson (www.ericsson.com) continues building its HD voice wins, this time by providing the technology for LG U+ to deploy VoLTE (Voice over LTE).

The company’s press release doesn’t detail an exact date for VoLTE service turn up, only that LG U+ has launched. It also says the operator “can offer” services such as HD voice, video calling, and the like, not that it *is* offering HD voice services.

LG U+ was the first operator in South Korea to roll out LTE commercially on July 1, 2011.  As of August 2012, LG U+ is the second largest LTE provider in the country, serving 3.1 million subscribers.

Interestingly, Ericsson also highlights Rich Communications Services (RCS) in the press release – hence the references to services like video calling, as well as HD voice.
