After what seems like months of testing, Portuguese mobile carrier TMN has launched HD voice service on its network. Many of the phones in TMN’s portfolio already support HD voice says the carrier, including the Apple iPhone 5.
TMN started testing HD voice in the country around early 2011, so the only question perhaps is why it took the carrier so long to move into commercial service. Deployment also suggests HD voice may be coming to Portugal Telecom subsidiaries in Africa, Brazil, and China.
With Portugal, Europe and the EU continue to fill in the HD voice coverage map. Expect a larger discussion on IPX (IP Exchange) services to gain volume as network providers work to engineer a seamless experience within their affiliates and among all carriers.
