IT EXPO West 2012 – 8×8 says its customers love HD voice, but it is not moving any traffic outside of its own network.
“We’ve gotten very good feedback from customers,” said VP if Business Development Huw Rees. “They really enjoy it, they really like the quality. But we’ve got to find a way to bridge these [HD voice] islands. It’s crazy to use the PSTN as an intermediary layer.”
It’s interconnection that’s not happening. Last year, 8×8 signed up for Inteliquent’s HD voice exchange service, but there’s no traffic coming across.
“The problem is nobody else is connected,” Rees said. “We never got any calls. It’s a bit disappointing.”
