Rogers, the largest wireless carrier in Canada quietly launched service last week, reports Mobile Syrup, along with its Fido Solutions subsidiary. The carrier joins Bell Canada and WIND Mobile in operational networks. Telus is expected to announce service in the near future and has said it will support HD voice on the the iPhone 5.
From the list of HD voice compatible devices, it appears HD voice is currently running on Rogers HSPA+ network. Devices include: Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Apple iPhone 5, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Nokia X7-00. HTC EVO 3D (PG86310), HTC Raider (PH39150), Nokia N8-00, Motorola Quench.
WIND Mobile was the first provider in Canada to introduce HD voice in January 2011. Bell Canada and its Virgin Mobile subsidiary brought out HD voice a year later in January 2012. Various web sites say Telus supports HD voice, but it isn’t clear if the company has officially announced service support, other than saying it will support HD voice on the iPhone 5.
With Rodgers Wireless (#1 in market share, plus Fido Solutions) Bell Mobility (#2) and WIND Mobile (#5)supporting HD voice, Canada has three carriers confirmed and more than half the mobile subscribers in Canada covered.
