Indonesia gets HD voice

Mobile carrier AXIS is now offering HD voice across its 3G network in Indonesia, according to a report in the Tribunnews. Service is now available across 100 cities in the country of 238 million and marks a significant expansion of HD voice across Asia.

On the first day of service, over 100,000 calls on the carrier’s 3G network took place, according to a press release.  Terms and conditions are the same as on other mobile networks around the globe – no additional charges. A list of supported handsets on the company’s website lists the many Sony Xperia phones, the Nokia Lumina 820 and 920, and the Apple iPhone 5.

AXIS has been in business since April 2008 and has over 17 million mobile customers. According to Wikipedia, it’s the fifth largest carrier in the country and is a venture of the Saudi Telecom Company and Malaysian-based Maxis Communications.
