Huawei’s (www.huaweidevice.com) new phones and tablets boast quad-core processors, Dolby sound and hot video, but do they support AMR-WB and HD voice? It’s not in the press releases. The Huawei Ascend D quad “Pegasus” clames to be the fastest quad-core smartphone in the world and it certainly has the hardware to support HD [...] For Mobile World Congress, Audience announced the earSmart eS110, an advanced voice processor designed to work with a single microphone on feature (i.e., low-end phones). The custom DSP core enables “HiFi” voice, what the company describes as “a wideband HD voice listening experience for mobile users connected to 2G and 3G mobile Narrowband networks”; [...] Cordless handset manufacturer Swissvoice (www.swissvoice.net) got its IH 250 phone CAT-iq 2.0 certified by the DECT forum in January and DSP Group took credit for the chipset in it about two weeks ago. The IH250 is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2012 and supports the full range of CAT-iq 2.0 [...] One of the most interesting/subtle marketing moves Digium did on its phones is to put the phrase “HD voice” on the handset. There aren’t a lot of people who do that right now.
