Ericsson (www.ericsson.com) has a new piece up on its website promoting the GSM Association-approved HD voice logo. The piece, available here, says more than 30 operators now offer HD voice services, with Ericsson offering HD voice services for fixed networks, GSM, and WCDMA, with “plans to launch offerings for CDMA and LTE [...] Ericsson has released a new white paper on HD voice. “HD Voice: It speaks for itself,” available here, covers the role HD voice will play with operators and users of both fixed and mobile networks. Among the interesting tidbits Ericsson presents include is a chart ranking call quality of an HD device to a non-HD device [...] In a press release sent to Reuters and making the rounds in other distribution circles, Ericsson is defining its role in the mobile HD voice rollout in Australia, “the world’s largest HD voice network.” Telstra has turned up HD voice services covering over 2.1 million square kilometers, according to the release. Ericsson supplied a software upgrade [...] TIA 2011 (www.tia2011.org) has HD voice in its sessions this week. “HD Voice: Implementing the Advantages” is taking place on May 18, 2011, from 8:30 to 9:15 am in Grapevine 3 at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas. It’s an interesting release since Qualcomm been demoing HD voice for year and the Ericsson release cites cooperation [...] In a report released on March 9, the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) (www.gsacom.com) declared more handset manufacturers are shipping mobile phones with HD voice activated as default. Phones listed in the report with AMR-WB (Or W-AMR, as the new marketing-speak term appears) turned on from the factory include Nokia C3, C6, C7, E7, N8 and X3, [...] According to news reports out of India, Tata DOCOMO 3G will support HD voice service when it turns up on November 5 across the country in nine telecommunications zones (“circles”). The Tata DOCOMO 3G rollout is a HSPA+ 3G network – or a “3G+” network in FT/Orange terms — supporting speeds up to 21 Mbps as well [...] Ericsson is not taking a subtle approach to HD voice.
