While nearly all of the (so-called) trade press is drooling over Samsung intro-ing Yet Another Open Source operating system and Microsoft’s efforts to stop its phone OS from vanishing into oblivion, Business Week got it right: Voice still matters for mobile phones. Plane old voice calls (POVCs?) still provide the bulk of revenues for carriers around [...] France Telecom/Orange continues its steamroller push of mobile HD voice service at Mobile World Congress this week. The company says it plans to offer eight (8) mobile HD voice phones in the first half of this year and all of its handsets are expected to support HD voice by the end of 2011. In an interview [...] France Telecom has dramatically upped the ante in the mobile HD voice arena. Orange will now launch mobile HD voice service in France, Luxembourg and Spain in 2010, adding to a list that already includes Moldova, the UK, and Belgium. In addition, Orange confirmed that the UK customer trial for mobile HD voice will start [...] HD Voice Summit at 2010 CES, Las Vegas –France Telecom will deploy mobile HD voice service in its home country in 2010, as well as providing mobile HD voice service to Belgium and broadband HD voice to Poland.
