Last week Sprint threw WiMAX under the bus, announcing it would be conducting a national rollout of LTE under its Network Vision plan. D2 Technologies (www.d2tech.com) is demoing its mCUE client on the HTC EVO 4G smartphone at the WiMAX Forum global Congress in Amsterdam this week.
The mCUE software was ported over to the EVO in less than a week; the software offers OEMs a solution for WiMAX-based Android devices that includes UC capabilities and interoperability with IMS-based networks.

Over in Taiwan for COMPUTEX, D2 Technologies (www.d2tech.com) has announced its vPort Gateway embedded VoIP software now supports the Sequans Communications WiMAX chipset.
Sequans is the world’s leading WiMAX chipmaker, says the press release. The D2/Sequans combo is running on a CPE reference design based on the Ralink RT3052 SoC.

Reviews of Sprint’s HTC EVO phone are good – with the exception of short battery life when WiMAX is turned on. CPU-intensive codecs are only likely to compound the problem, leaving G.722 as an “oldie, but goody.”

D2 Technologies (www.d2tech.com) and GCT Semiconductor (www.gctsemi.com) have announced a complete VoIP/IP Communications solution over WiMAX for mobile devices based on the Android and Linux operating systems. Since D2 has already announced support for G.722 on Android via mCUE, it’s no great leap to say mobile HD VoIP over WiMAX.
